Treatment ApproachesEMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and ReprocessingEDMR is a method developed in 1989 by Dr. Francine Shapiro to treat trauma survivors. It is now internationally recognized as one of the most effective ways to treat not only PTSD, but other stress, trauma and anxiety disorders. Stephen is trained in EDMR and is a member of EMDR International Association. He weaves EMDR into his other treatment approaches. It is especially effective for persons with early childhood trauma, PTSD, and anxiety disorders. Following the attack on the World Trade Center in September 2001, Stephen treated a number of police officers from the NYPD Somatic ExperiencingStephen is a licensed SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner), having completed the highest level of training for this method. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-awareness method of therapy where clients become more attuned to what is happening in their body and central nervous system when they are experiencing anxiety, depression, or overreacting to current life situations due to childhood or trauma history. By developing greater awareness and learning alternate ways to self-regulate, clients can change their distress to effectiveness and mastery. Like Clinical Hypnosis and EMDR, Somatic Experiencing works rapidly and clients usually feel immediate results. Clinical HypnosisHypnosis is a creative and powerful method of using mental imagery and focus to improve one’s mood, reduce anxiety, change problematic behavior, and deal with health and medical problems. In the hypnotic state, clients have access to ideas and suggestions that will be useful when brought into their waking life. Clinical Hypnosis works fairly quickly so that clients usually experience rapid relief and a return to improved functioning. Some of the many areas where hypnosis is effective are:
• Stress management
• Weight Management
• Medical problems
• Smoking cessation
• Sleep disorders
• Sexual dysfunction
• Phobias
