Stephen McFadden, C.S.W.

Treatment for Sexually-Compulsive Behavior

Early on in his career as a psychotherapist, Stephen identified that a large number of men in the gay community were struggling with Sexually-Compulsive Behavior (SCB), also know as Sex Addiction. He developed a treatment protocol for this, and began treating individuals with SCB in the mid-1980s. Stephen's treatment protocol combines cognitive-behavioral interventions with psychodynamic understanding of the roots of SCB. Beginning in 1992, Stephen was hired to provide training and workshops to professional organizations on SCB, and he continues as a lecturer and trainer on SCB today. Stephen is a member of the National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (NCSAC), and has presented at their annual conference.

In 2002, Stephen initiated an 8-week group program on Reducing Sexually-Compulsive Behavior to reach a broader population. This group program has been successful and continues to reach many men with SCB, while providing peer support and psycho-education. New groups generally begin each month, and a pre-screening interview is required.

In addition to his SCB groups, Stephen continues to offer individual therapy for SCB, sometimes combining it with EMDR treatment. He also works with couples and partners who are experiencing this problem in their relationships.
