EMDR EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a method developed in 1989 by Francine Shapiro, PhD to treat trauma survivors. EMDR has now been recognized as one of the most effective methods to treat not only PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), but other stress, trauma and anxiety disorders; EMDR is used worldwide, most recently to help survivors of the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City. Stephen is trained (Level II) in EMDR, and is a member of the EMDR International Association. He has also received advanced training with Maureen Kitchur in Canada on the Strategic Developmental Model, which has been used to treat persons with histories of childhood abuse and neglect. Stephen integrates EMDR into his other treatment approaches; he has used it successfully with persons with early childhood trauma, anxiety disorders, and PTSD.
